Today, October 31, Tuesday, the current President of Singapore, President Halimah Yacob announces the ties between  Singapore and the United Kingdom,  “as rich and enduring” and having a strong affinity due to the shared history.

It all started in 1819 when a trading port was discovered by Sir Stamford Raffles, this opened the door to the development and advancement of Singapore which until now, Singaporeans and other nationals enjoyed.

Sir Stamford, instilled that global perspective into Singapore’s blood, according to Madam Halimah as she highlighted the trade and strong research bond between the two giant countries. Per historical record, UK is the fifth monumental European business trading partner of Singapore and globally, it ranks as the sixth biggest investor.

There are over 4,000 British and more companies operating in Singapore such as the Glaxo- SmithKline, Dyson and the Rolls- Royce, and wherein have played a role in Singapore’s innovation and progress, the president added.

The President lobbied during the official dinner held at Banquet Hall for the honorable heir  Prince Charles and Camilla, his better half, the Duchess of Cornwall.  She hosted

The President was speaking at an official dinner at the Istana’s Banquet Hall for heir apparent Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. She holds the dinner together with  Mr. Mohamed Abdullah, the husband. 

Madam Halimah stressed that Sir Stamford’s legacy still prevails and evident in the kind of governance and legal structures, nation’s language, infrastructures, road names, and educational institutions.

“The ties bring us back to the memories where it builds and strengthen relationships that bridges two centuries thus bilateral ties become more sensible in every aspect. I strongly believed, Singapore – UK ties will flourish forever, announced by Madam Halimah prior to raising a toast to the Queen.

Prince Charles, toasted with President and the Singaporeans,  and same he stressed the significance of close bilateral agreement.

He narrated his first epic official travel in Singapore,  1979. He did n’t expect to have such a big banquet with the legendary Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. He thought they will dine with a small food preparation but instead, the table was loaded with Chinese food of around 20 courses along with his staff of Cabinets, Princes Charles shared it with a big smile on his face.

” As the lunch ended, I was experiencing a strong intellectual challenged  and really picked great inputs from great Heads of the Commonwealth.”

Through the years, Singapore like UK have both ups and down, he added,  talking about the fallen soldiers who fought during the first and second World Wars.

” Today, Singapore and UK have a tight partnership of equality built by the shared history, embedded with understanding and trust which yields a  genuine friendship.”

Partnership is the remedy in solving global issues, from terrorism, economic recession, climate change and even in fueling the economy to bring brighter future to the next generation and to everyone, he  further stated, ” At the bottom of our relationship, Madam President, is the shared faith that working hand in hand is synonymous to one added to one yield to more than two.”

Before the 25th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which will be held in London of 2018, Singapore is the first place to be visited by the Royal Couple, where the first Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting took place, way back 36 years ago. Next to visit are Malaysia and India. 

The royal leaders also visited their neighboring country, Madam Halimah told.

The UK holds one of the huge populace of overseas Singaporeans and around 40,000 Britons lived here, creating the biggest overseas British community in whole Southeast Asia. ” Solid people-to-people collaboration continues to establish the various levels of the exceptional bilateral relations among Singaporean and UK,” she shared.

The first hour of the meeting, the great Royal Couple, was thrown with a warm welcome at the place called Isana, this was done by the honorable madam Halimah and the first gentleman.

The Royal Couple also meet, the dynamic Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the same place, the Isana.

Both the President Madam Halimah and His Majesty, Prince Charles renewed the sacred ties between Uk and Singapore and further reviewed and affirmed the essence of interfaith harmony.

Prime Minister Lee together with the prince talked about the regional and global climate problems, according to Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Prince Charles pays respect to those fallen soldiers during the World War I and II by offering a wreath at the Cenotaph of Connaught Drive. He also joined a forum on interfaith problems together with great leaders and active young generation. Also, he did that phenomenal treetop walk around MacRitchie Reservoir Park.
